EMDR and EMDR Intensives *

“My actions are my only true belongings.”

-Thich Nhat Hanh

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. EMDR is used to treat and promote recovery from identified difficulties and past traumas. EMDR emphasizes the brain’s natural ability to heal. EMDR is an integration of neuroscience, psychology and is a healing approach.

EMDR facilitates connections, calming the amygdala, enhancing the prefrontal cortex’s regulatory functions. This supports sensory integration, interoceptive awareness, and modulates the brain's default mode network. EMDR enables the brain to process and resolve traumatic memories and supports making changes in how individuals experience and relate to their past.

EMDR can accelerate therapy by resolving the impact of your past traumas and allowing you to live more fully in the present as an active participant in your life. This treatment approach targets past experience, current triggers, and future potential challenges. This supports a decrease or elimination of distress from the disturbing memory and event.

What is EMDR?

My Approach

As a therapist I utilize IFS (Internal Family Systems) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). I integrate somatic therapy to make sure that the body and psyche are able to fully keep up with the processing that occurs in the brain during EMDR. IFS and EMDR are powerful trauma therapies that are often integrated to create a more holistic healing process. I use IFS to help clients build internal safety and self-compassion (the "Self"). I utilize this approach when reprocessing traumatic memories, helping clients overcome blocks and achieve deeper integration and resilience. IFS prepares the system for EMDR by establishing trust with internal "parts" and managing protectors. IFS helps integrate the new, healed memories by fostering harmony and coherence among the different internal parts, ensuring long-term stability and preventing relapse.

Increased Regulation: I support clients in utilizing somatic body-based awareness to increase regulations and track changes in their autonomic nervous system during reprocessing. This fosters a more holistic, mind-body and healing experience, allowing for a more comprehensive treatment that addresses both the psychological and physiological aspects of traumatic experiences.

Introduction to EMDR

Why EMDR Intensives?

Trauma is hard. There is a way forward.

Are you struggling with a specific distressing issue or trauma? What if you could address what you are struggling with and even resolve it in 1 - 3 days versus months or years in therapy? EMDR intensive therapy provides an accelerated therapeutic approach that can quickly reduce the effects of trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety, and other issues by efficiently reprocessing distressing memories. Maybe you’ve been to therapy before and didn’t get what you needed out of it or found it really hard to return to “normal life” after discussing really heavy or difficult topics every week.

Intensive EMDR Therapy can help you feel better faster.

EMDR intensive therapy is a way of accelerating the healing that would typically take place at a slower rate within the traditional weekly therapy format. In an intensive EMDR treatment session, the progress typically spread across weeks or months gets compressed into an immersive one-to-three-day experience of extended processing sessions. The intensive’s concentrated format allows you to dive deeper into your therapeutic work. Therefore, you can see results more quickly because of the extended processing time.

I will conduct a Pre-Intensive Interview with you that is 90 minutes long. This will establish the purpose of our work together. We will look at what is currently going on in your life now, including your support system, stressors, coping mechanisms, and areas where you seek support or significant progress.

Throughout the EMDR intensives therapy session, we focus on two main objectives. The first is to reduce the painful experiences in your life. The second is to increase the positive feelings in your life. This involves either specifically using EMDR Reprocessing along with resourcing activities like guided meditation, artwork, or somatic exercise. These all incorporate the bilateral stimulation utilized in EMDR. Together we may delve into early life relationships and attachment trauma. This process is individualized and tailored to your needs.

After the EMDR intensive there will be a Post-Intensive Interview to support your integration. Intensive Therapy is a short-term therapy investment that can yield long-term and lasting results. This maybe a great jump start to your recovery and healing.
